Around this time for the last five years or so, I have been bugged by a question regarding my cellphone. Should I change it or should I just stick with the unit I am using now? Decisions. Decisions. Decisions. I came upon this print ad of BPI featuring 3 cellphones, each one better and more recently released than the other. It has a caption that goes like: Should you upgrade your cellphone? or upgrade your life? Well it kinda hit home with me.
I am using an O2 mini xda phone right now and with my phone line contract ending soon I would again be asked by my network to chose a new phone that would come with my new contract. In my previous contract retention, I would actually pick not the ones that came free, but one that would usually require me to pay some more money. This year I have my eyes set on the new Sony Ericsson P1i. I'm still having second thoughts though because I have grown to love the phone I have now, it works fine for me and is still in good shape. It has several dings here and there but still mighty great looking!

But a new spanking phone is really great too! It would cost a fortune, but imagine the social promotion that comes with it. Damn!
Are we all so shallow that upgrading our cellphone unit to the much newer model has become a necessity? Am I this shallow? We all want things, that's a given; but up to what extent are we willing to give in to them?
I am hoping that when I answer this question, my answer would be to upgrade my life. It is not a certainty though, since I'm a believer that one upgrades the things they use, it would inherently improve their life as well. That is my justification. Yes, I am that shallow! I am only human.
The good thing is, I cannot afford that Sony Ericsson P1i. It is true that the poor are blessed for they shall inherit the earth. Hmmmmmm, aint I lucky? hehehehehehe
